http://www.usc.edu/uscnews/stories/img/pic1_16399.jpgFolic Acid is very essential for health.  It is a vitamin essential for the production of genetic material and red blood cells; healthy pregnancy, protein metablolism, healthy bones, hair, nervous, digestive, and immune system.  Good sources of folic acid include beef and chicken liver and dark green leafy vegetables, such as brocoli, spinach and others.

Doctors always recommend that all women take folic acid supplements before and during the pregnancy.  Folic acid plays important role in the growth and development of the fetus.  Folic acid is indicated for the prevention of folic acid deficiencies during pregnancy that may result to some abnormalities of the fetus.

Folic acid supplementation helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular and kidney diseases and prevents colorectal  cancer.  It is indicated for the prevention of exfoliative skin diseases, gingivitis, and malabsorption; it is also recommended to the patient with gout, elderly, those with gastrointestinal inflammation, and alcoholics.
