Serious health risks from Cosmetic use are rare. problems usually occur because of thoughtfulness on the part of the user. Be informed consumer, educate yourself on your family on how to use these everyday products safely.
Be careful when using aerosol products. It is dangerous to use aerosol hairspray near heat, fire, or while smoking. Untill hairspray is fully dry, it can ignite and cause serious burns. Injuries and deaths have occured from fires related to aerosol hairsprays. If aerosol sprays or powders are inhaled, they can cause lung damage.
Cosmetics become contaminated with bacteria that the brush or applicator sponge picks up from your skin. Wash your hands before using makeup. Wash and air dry your brushes and applicators regularly and never share makeup.
Keep makeup containers closed tight when not in use. Throw away any makeup if the color changes or an odor develops. Preservatives can degrade over time or if left in sunlight and may niot be able to fight bacteria.
Artificial nails can be source of problems, especially when not applied correctly. Artificial nails must be completely sealed because any space between the natural nail and the artificial nail gives fungal infections can lead to permanent nail loss.
The most common injury from cosmetics is from scratching the eye with mascara wand. If eye scratches are left untreated they can result in infection. Such infections can lead to ulcers on the cornea, loss of lashes, or extreme cases, blindness. Play it safe. Never apply mascara while riding in a car, bus, train or plane.
Sleepinh while wearing eye make up can cause problems, too. If mascara flakes into your eyes while you sleep, you might awaken with itching, bloodshot eyes, and possibly infection or eye scratches. To avoid eye infection or injury, remove all make up before going to bed.
Don't use eye cosmetics if you have an eye infection such as conjunctivitis (pink eye), and throw away any makeup you wer using when you first discovered the infection.

Good warnings for us ladies. I have a friend who does her make-up while driving. I don't want to imagine her hitting the breaks while putting on mascara.
