Many are unable to find happiness in the present moment because they choose to focus on the past. A loss, dissapoint, or failure that they keep reviving in their thoughts and imagination produces a feeling of depression. Or their hearts are filled with resentment over what someone did to them- or didnot do, and they go in blaming that person unforgivingly. Or they continuing to blame themselves for something about which they feel guilty. Their depression, hostility, or guilt are kept alive by dwelling in the past that no longer exists. All these emotionally distresses people, the depressed, resentful,guilt-ridden, anxious, angry, impatient, or hostile are not just missing happiness; they are also damaging the health.
Still, i believe it is one thing to decrease our emotonal stress, but something more to live life to the fullest. Wellness, in its totality, calls us to operate optimally as complete persons. Our spiritualy must become as much the focus of attention as are our emotinal and physical functioning.
Happiness comes from looking at ourselves, others, nature, events and God in a certain way. It results from looking for, finding, and cherishing what is good and beautiful in all these. It entails accepting, moments bt moment, what is real, present, actual. Happiness is the fruit of our using time well. The price of a life of happiness is learning to use our will to direct our thoughts constructively. At times we ought to focus on the past, but on the persons and events that were blessings, that were given us to live on in memories that can evoke gratitude and love. At times our will should direct our thought forward, toward the foreseeable events and situations that lend hope ans inspiration to our present moments. But most of the time the happy life is one of searching for the goodness in all that is present around us.
My heart is crying when i saw those news in tv, radio, newspapers, internet and YouTube.

It is not unusual to hear a group of students complain about a teacher they have in a particular subject not understanding her students. Nor is it seldom too that teachers complain about their student not understanding them. So as long as we have schools and education, this two way problem will always be with us. And if we look closer at this problem, we can see that it boils down to COMMUNICATION- to be exact a failure to communicate.
But you may say "communication is a simple process. I say something and another person listens and answers back." No matter how simple it may seem to many of us, it is complicated process in its entirety.
We always think of this question.. What must we do in order that we become a good listeners? The answers lies in our ability to develop our awareness of feelings. It requires a lot of sensitivity to one's self and others. This does not mean we must drown ourselves in emotions and emotional problems. It simply means that we should accept emotions as a part of us, as a part of our life.
Up to this point we have emphasized the feeling part of the message because it is usually ignored. We should not dismiss the fact that we must pay attention to the content of the message as well. As distinct individuals, we have differences that affect our perceptions of everything in our environment. We are people, not machines. It is being human that makes us different from one another rather than being identical robots. Everything that is fed into our five senses is filtered through our perceptive process. What makes us different, distinct and human are our perceptions.
We are different because of our cultural heritage. Some race may perceive what they see or hear in a different way than we Filipinos would. We are also different because of our values. What may be said may be taken in a different context some value certain things more than others do, some carry positive values, some negative ones.
Our life experiences also makes us different from one another. The way we were raised, the social and physical environments in which we grow, our personalities, our ambitions and goals- all these add up to the varieties of our experiences in life. We all different concepts of our selves. Our self image, feeling of worth and esteem contribute to the way we give and receive messages. What our self-concepts are and the value we attach to them will determine, in part, our communication.
The vital ingredients in our communication recipe, which we all should remember is what we do not hear the real communication from others. We should keep in mind that we are human and that our perceptive process tends to get in the way of messages being received.
If we really want to communicate we must therefore consider what the other person's feeling are. We must learn that empathy is a must for all of us to "listen" well. To do this may not be easy but the rewards for the effort done may lessen or eliminate the problems of communications failure. The price we have to pay if we do not use communication tools for effective listening may be too costly.

Bamboo is used in the Philippines for a variety of purposes ranging from food to housing material, furniture, and handicraft products.
The woody grass, known as Bambusae grows in abundance and generally cheaper than other materials. The durability of the bamboo, usually three to five years, is improved by treatment and preservation techniques applied to the poles. Bamboo poles are used as framing for furniture. Strips of outer or inner skin are woven into furniture sidings, seats or back. Bamboo is bleached, dyed, finished with oil or sprayed with paint and other finishes to improve quality and appearance. It is also ysed in combination with rattan, buri, and other furniture materials.
There are 54 species and four varieties of locally grown bamboo, nine of which are commercially used: Kawayan tinik, kawayan kiling, bayog, anis, botong, giant bamboo, buho, yellow bamboo, and bolo.
A versatile plant, bamboo is used as raw material for low cost houses, furniture, handicraft products, fishing implements as well as source of pulp and paper. As a construction materials bamboo is made into sawali panels, veneers, plywood, parquet tiles and as reinforcement for concrete blocks.
We show today a sunken area with a floor covered in bamboo, slats, a gazebo of bamboo poles, a bar combining both slats and poles, bamboo furniture and bamboo curtains. This materials can be combines with wood or plain cement walls painted in a soft or neutral colors.
Bamboo must be thoroughly dried before use. In air drying bamboo poles are stocked upside down in a shaded but well ventilated area. Kiln-drying is also used. bamboo cut when less mature is less susceptible to powder post beetle damage, but the danger remains unless preservation method are used. Traditionally methods of preserving bamboo include immersing the material in salty water or in the sandy seashore. White washing is another method where bamboo culms are painted with slaked lime, which makes bamboo resistant to fungi. When properly treated and used under favorable conditions it can last as 10 to 15 years.

What is Myasthenia gravis?
Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease that leads to muscle weakness and. therefore. movement difficulty. Symptoms come and go in a highly variable pattern, affecting movement throughout the body. the disease frequently attacks facial muscle, causing droopy eyelids and difficulty in eating.
What causes myasthenia gravis?
In an autoimmune disorder, body mechanisms that normally protect you from invasion by bacteria and other agents run amok and attack your own healthy tissue. In myasthenia gravis, the immune system forms antibodies that attack certain neuromuscular receptors. This interferes with communication of messages between the nerves and muscles.
How is myasthenia gravis diagnosed and treated?
The disease is usually diagnosed on blood tests and, sometimes, electrophysiologic tests to asses neuromuscular message transmission. However, because initial symptoms may not be marked and because they can be so transient, misdiagnosis early in the course of the disease is common.
- drooping eyelids
- double vision
- difficulty chewing and swallowing
- difficulty talking
- problems handling object
- difficulty standing and walking

The appendix is an extension of the cecum, the beginning of the large intestines. It is a small pouch, about 3 or 4 inches long, located on the lower right side of the abdomen, just at the point where the small intestine passes material into the large intestine during digestion. in some prior evolutionary stage , it may have had some purpose, but in modern humans, it has no function.
Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes inflamed and fills with pus. It can occur at any age, but is most prevalent between the ages of 15 and 24. It is the most common reason for abdominal surgery in children and adolescents. Symptoms can vary from person to person, and sometimes appendicitis can be mistaken for other medical problems, including various infections, such gynecologic conditions as a ruptured ovarian cyst or an infection of a fallopian tube, or inflammatory bowel disease.
What causes appendicitis?
Appendicitis is most often associated with a blockage or obstruction between the small intestine and colon. Although medical scientist do not fully understand the mechanisms involved, it appears that this obstruction paves the way for the appendix to become contaminated with bacteria, parasites, fecal material or other substances that can lead to inflammation. In the past it was thought that eating certain foods such as nuts or corn could cause appendicitis, but there is no evidence to support this.
- abdominal pain, generally starting in the upper abdomen and then moving to the lower right portion. Pain is persistent and steady, but may be worsened by movement, sneezing or taking a deep breath.
- nausea and vomiting
- mild fever
- feeling of general malaise
There are no specific preventive steps. Some researchers believe that consuming a diet high in fibrous foods--for example, whole grain breads and cereals, and fresh or lightly processed fruits and vegetables- can help prevent appendicitis, but this has not been proved. Nor is there any truth to the old wives belief that eating whole kernel corn, nuts and seeds will cause appendicitis.

What is angina?
Angina is temporary pain or tightness that starts in the chest and sometimes radiates to other parts of the upper body. It comes on suddenly and usually does not last very long. It usually occurs when there are extra demands on the heart due to exercise, emotional stress, exposure to cold or wind, extra blood needed to digest a heavy meal, and so forth.
What causes angina?
Angina is caused by a shortage of oxygen and other nutrients reaching the heart muscle. This occurs most often when coronary arteries, which encircle and nourish the heart muscle, become narrowed or clogged with deposits of fatty plaque (atherosclerosis). When the heart must work harder but does not receive a normal increase in blood flow, angina results. Some people may experience angina even when they are not exerting efforts perhaps even they are sleeping. Scientist think this form of angina is caused by a spasm or constriction in the coronary arteries, usually at the site of atherosclerosis. This is referred to as resting or variant angina.
- Chest pain behind the breastbone
- pressure, tightness, or burning in the chest
- pain radiating to the arms, neck, jaw, or back.
- chest pain that occurs during exercise, after a heavy meal, on a cold windy day, or when stressed
Angina is diagnosed on the basis of symptoms, physical examination, and tests such as an exercise stress test or coronary angiography - a special study of the heart's circulation.
Many people can keep angina under control by making life-style changes that lower the heart's work load and reduce stress. Rest and the use of nitroglycerin usually will relieve an attack. The heart's demand for oxygen also can be modified with drugs such as beta blockers, which reduce blood pressure and slow down the heart rate, and thus reduce its demand for oxygen.
What can I do myself?
Decrease your risk of an angina attack by identifying and controlling the trigger factors that lead to chest pain, such as running up a flight of stairs or racing to catch a bus, an outburst of anger, or being outdoors on cold, windy days.
What can I do to avoid angina?
- Stop smoking, since it makes the heart work harder
- Lose excess weight and start an exercise program, but check with your doctor first
- Lower blood cholesterol by eating less fats
- Eat several light meals a day rather than fewer large ones, and rest after eating
- don't go out to extremely cold days
- reduce stress

Breast cancer is the common form of cancer in women. It kills nearly 40,000 American women each year. About one out of every 10 women will eventually develop it. If detected and treated early, before it spreads to the lymph nodes and other parts of the body, chances for survival are better than 90 percent.
What causes breast cancer?
The exact cause is unknown, but the risk seems to be higher for women whose mothers, sisters, or other close relatives had breast cancer. It is also higher for women who never had children or those who had their first child after age 30. Some studies suggest than a diet high in animal fats may be a factor. Other women develop cancer that is related to hormone levels. Despite what many people think, breast cancer is not caused by blows, bruises, giving birth, nursing a baby, or sexual activity.
How is breast cancer diagnosed and treated?
A biopsy is needed to established a definitive diagnosis. At one time, a radical mastectomy, or total removal of the breast and underlying muscle and tissue, was the major treatment. Today, a modified mastectomy that preserves normal arm and shoulder movements favored. Recent studies show that the use of chemotherapy and/ or radiation therapy in addition to a mastectomy improve survival.
Small, localized cancers can sometimes be treated with a lumpectomy (removal of only the lump and surrounding tissue), followed by radiation.
An increasing number of women are having breast reconstruction after mastectomy. Improved techniques have resulted in soft, natural-looking breast prostheses, minimizing the disfigurement associated with mastectomy.
- Breast lump or thickening
- bleeding or discharge from the nipple
- Charge in breast shape or contour
- Dimpling or puckering of skin
- retraction or scaliness of the nipple
- Inflamed reddish appearance
- Breast cancer cannot be prevented, but it is highly curable if found early
- Every women should have a baseline mammogram between the age of 35 and 39 to help detect changes in later years. Between age 40 to 50 have a mammogram every one to two years, and if you are over 50, have one annually.
The longer you wait to have breast cancer treated, the more likely it is spread to other parts of the body.

The vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables are sensitive to light, heat, and water. So storing and cooking them correctly is key to maintaining nutrients.
One easy way to save nutrients is using the microwave. Microwave cooking requires very little water so that vegetables retain vitamins and minerals.
When you microwave frozen veggies, you only need to add one to two tablespoons of water. For fresh vegetables, place the veggie in a covered casserole dish with two tablespoons of water. Cooking time varies from four to five minutes for mushrooms, zucchini, and broccoli: potatoes and squash take about 10 to 15 minutes.

FOODS that are high in purine-which raises uric acid levels in the body-can trigger a gout attack. A typical diet consist of 600 to 1000 mg of purine daily. Gout sufferers, on the other hand, must restrict their purine intake to 100 to 150 mg. Their diet must be high in carbohydrates ( which enhances urate excretion), moderate in protien, and low in fat (which reduce urate excretion).
Foods with high purine levels (100-1000mg purine/100 g food)

- chicken soup
- meat extracts
- mince meat
